How to highlight text in a screenshot
- Copy a screenshot. On a Mac, press ⌘⌃⇧4 and drag over the area you want. On Windows, press Win+Shift+S.
- Paste it here with ⌘V, or Ctrl+V on Windows.
- Drag across the text. The highlighter snaps to the line and to whole words. For several lines, drag from the first word to the last, the same way you'd select text.
- Copy or save. Press ⌘C and paste the result into Slack, an email or a doc, or press ⌘S to save a PNG.
More ways to edit a screenshot
Point at things with arrows, circle them with boxes and ellipses, add labels, and number the steps of a walkthrough. Pixelate or black out anything private, crop to the part that matters, and set the result on a soft backdrop with a shadow when you want it to look polished. Every tool has a one-key shortcut, and undo goes back as far as you need.

Is Shotlighter free?
Yes. There's no account, no watermark and no limit on how many screenshots you edit.
Are my screenshots uploaded anywhere?
No. Editing happens entirely in your browser, and your images never leave your computer. The site counts anonymous visits without cookies. The privacy page has the details.
Does it work on Windows?
Yes, in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. The shortcuts use Ctrl instead of ⌘.
Can I install it like an app?
Yes. In Safari on a Mac, choose File, then Add to Dock. In Chrome or Edge, click the install icon in the address bar. Once installed, it opens in its own window and works offline.
